Hav­ing setup a local NAS, I wanted to have easy access to the mount points.  It turns out Finder has an option to dis­play net­work shares on the Desk­top.  Pretty neat!

Hav­ing suc­cess­fully setup a low cost NAS, I wanted to find out how fast my NAS was. More so, since the folks at DD-WRT and Tomato worked pretty hard to get USB work­ing on the Asus 520gu. It all boiled down to Samba ver­sus Win­dows. The results were an eye opener!

The Canon Image­Class 4370dn is a great multi-function printer, one of the few Canon all-in-ones that work on a Mac.

If you intend to con­nect the printer via USB, the instal­la­tion is fairly straight­for­ward.  This tuto­r­ial lists the steps for a Net­work install.

Inkjet print­ers are great but I hate their out­ra­geous prices for car­tridges. A gal­lon of milk $4. A gal­lon of printer ink $8000! The last straw was when my Canon mul­ti­func­tion inkjet printer refused to even scan to my lap­top till I replaced the car­tridge! Talk about greed. Why does a scan oper­a­tion require a car­tridge? And the worst part was the car­tridge was not even empty, the printer was 2 months old, must’ve taken 10 or 15 printouts.
